Starting a kitchen remodel from scratch is an exciting, if daunting, task. With no limits but the walls of your kitchen, it’s difficult to know where to start. Luckily, kitchen remodeling companies like us at RP Pro Contracting have years of experience designing and building kitchens for people like you. From designing the layout to choosing the features, we’ll help you create the perfect kitchen.
Every kitchen designer has their go-to advice for remodeling. Here are our three top tips to get you started.
Consider the Work Triangle
You may not be familiar with the term “work triangle,” but it’s a simple concept. There are three key points in every kitchen: the fridge, the stove, and the sink. The work triangle is the path you take to get to and from each of them. To design a functional kitchen, you need to ensure that your work triangle is unobstructed. The most common work triangle obstruction is a kitchen island. If you have a smaller kitchen, consider installing the sink or stove in the island, or opt for a kitchen peninsula if that’s not an option.
Maximize Counter Space
The complaint most people have about their kitchens is that they don’t have enough counter space. When designing your kitchen remodel, do everything you can to maximize your counter space. Mounting your microwave or adding pull-out shelves to your cabinets to store appliances are effective ways to keep your counters clear. Remodeling your kitchen is also a good opportunity to go through your kitchen and donate or pass on appliances or gadgets you don’t use to save some valuable space.
Organization Is Key
Work organizational features into your new kitchen design, especially if you have a small kitchen. Install pull-out shelves for easy access or hooks to keep your favorite pots and pans close at hand. In small kitchens, clever features like vertical spice rack drawers make good use of the space as well as help you stay organized.
